WordPress documentation can be found in many places on the web. Visit my site to see the most common and official links as well as the basic instructions I have written. Specific instructions for your site follow. Best to make edits on a large screen computer until you become familiar.
Your site is based on a performance server within the Mad River Internet multisite with carefully vetted plugins. If there are additional plugins you’d like to use, let me know.
Widgets/Sidebars
Appearance > Widgets shows a selection of Widgets in the left column(s) and the available Sidebars in the right column(s). Expand the sidebars to see which ones are used: Header Right, Primary, Before Header, and two specially created ones Rules and Truck.
Genesis > Simple Sidebars is used to create the special sidebars and to allow the choice of sidebars on each page. While editing any Page, you can see the Primary Sidebar selected. (Do not change the Header Right from default. Secondary is not used.)
Home and Get A Quote use the Truck sidebar. Storage Tips and Insurance use the Rules sidebar. All other pages display the primary sidebar with the Special(s).
Each sidebar currently has only one widget but can hold multiple as long as the additional content is appropriate for each page that uses that sidebar.
The Before Header widget was something I thought would be handy and could free up more space in the main navigation, removing redundancy if desired. Its code may be tricky with icons and links interwoven with text. The structure is:
<p id=””><a title=”(text on hover)” href=”(URL)”> <span class=”bhl”>(visible text)</span></a></p>
Posts
Your site uses the standard “Post” functionality for your specials that appear in the sidebars of several pages. The widget in the Primary sidebar is set to show “Featured” posts. Edit existing or create new. They can be saved indefinitely for re-use by two methods, whichever you find easier. Click one to open:
- Middle right, within Categories un-check Featured, OR
- Upper right, within Publish, edit Status and change to draft, click OK, and Update.
The method does not matter because you don’t have a blog on your site. If you establish a blog someday, these posts will all be displayed unless we filter by one of two methods, TBD.
The post can not only have images within the content, but a Featured Image (lower right) can be specified and will show in the sidebar above the post.
If you don’t like that the title and featured image can be clicked to go to the post rather than the quote page, uncheck both and put all content within the post itself; then you can link anything you want to the quote page.

MetaSlider
Although WordPress does not have a robust photo editor, the ability to make calls to action can be done creatively using slideshows.
Your Home Page and Supply Store slide shows are typical of photos with overlaid captions. The car storage slideshow has the last slide repeated to give the effect of a pause. The animated banner has been converted to a slide show also with a few repeat slides to create pause. The settings for each are below, with the last two settings in the Advanced Settings, lower right.
- They all use FlexSlider – Fade, Autoplay, *Smart Crop, Fade in, Hover pause
- Home – 700 x 400, Arrows, Dots; 5000, 500
- Supply Store – 503 x 337, Arrows, Hidden; 6000, 600
- Car Storage – 484 x 165, no Arrows, Hidden; 1000, 1 **
- Banner – 700 x 150, no Arrows, Hidden; 1000, 1
* Smart Crop will reduce the size of the images to the stated dimensions. If you create a slide show with varying size/shape images such as landscape, portrait, square, select Disabled (Smart Pad) and dimensions to accommodate. This will, however, use full sized images so it would be best to reduce (scale) them in the image editor before creating the slide show.
** The 1 millisecond animation speed on the last two provides the crisp transitions regardless of fade. Anything longer does not look good when a repeat slide exists for the purpose of a pause.
